Bored Ape yacht club discord suffers phishing scam, Ape Coin drops 8%
ApeCoin, the governance token behind the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT collection, has nosedived over 8% in the past 24 hours.
The 8% drop in the phishing scam was accelerated by reports that BAYC’s Discord channel had been comprised by a phishing attack in the early hours of Friday morning. This has resulted in the suspension of the ApeCoin Drops Program.
The project proposed to the Twitter account’s followers to “STAY SAFE. Do not mint anything from any Discord right now. A webhook in our Discord was briefly compromised. We caught it immediately but please know: we are not doing any April Fools stealth mints/airdrops etc. Other Discords are also being attacked right now.”
There was whole access to the official Discord by the attacker, where they announced in official channels that there would be a new collection available to the mint for Mutant Ape and Bored Ape NFT holders.
The Phishing scam can happen just by clicking the accompanying link and it would result in losing the holders’ respective NFTs. Security firm Peckshield has confirmed that at least one Mutant APE NFT has been lost due to this specific phishing scam.
